SelectIQ

Empowering every doctor and every patient to participate in research

SelectIQ addresses the primary bottleneck in drug development: recruiting patients into clinical trials. We analyze electronic health records to help doctors find clinical trials for their patients, and to help trial sites find patients for their studies. 72% of doctors want to inform their patients of clinical trials, but only 5% do. We're on a mission to close that gap, ultimately bringing safer, more effective drugs to the patients who need them.

What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?

The pace of progress in modern medicine is currently controlled by one thing: how quickly can you fill a clinical trial?---There is no shortage of novel molecules, there is no shortage of petri dish experiments, and there is no shortage of incentive to bring a drug to market. The bottleneck is clinical trials, and the bottleneck on almost every clinical trial is patient recruitment.---Most trial recruitment tools are sugar on top of Facebook Ads. SelectIQ is instead helping patients learn about clinical trials the way they overwhelmingly prefer to: from their doctor.* >70% of doctors want to tell their patients about clinical trials* <5% of doctors have ever referred a patient to a clinical trialWhy the gap? Doctors are notoriously overworked, experiencing record levels of burnout, and get to spend just a few minutes with each patient. Understanding which trials are available and whether their patient meets the complex eligibility criteria is a tall order. SelectIQ removes this burden from healthcare providers.---We’re building a Provider Activation Platform that enables trial sites to build, maintain, and leverage a network of referring healthcare providers, ensuring every patient is aware of every treatment option available to them. The first piece is automating chart review, the process by which a medical professional reads the patient’s record to assess whether they’re worth contacting about a study.

What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?

If we succeed, we will dramatically accelerate the pace and reduce the cost-risk profile of drug development. Our loved ones will have better treatment options available when they inevitably need them.
